Transformer faults in tanzanian electrical distribution networks: indicators, types, and causes

چکیده

Abstract Transformers are essential and costly components of electrical secondary distribution networks (ESDNs). Distribution transformers provide electricity to low-voltage consumers that need a consistent power supply for their daily tasks. Transformer faults have an impact on ESDN reliability. Even though several studies attempted investigate fault parameters; types, causes, indicators in transformers, it is still difficult generalize these criteria based diversifications. These diversifications caused by the architecture itself, transformer type, insulation materials. Therefore, this paper investigates specifically oil-based Tanzania’s using oil analysis technique Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) tool descriptive statistical analysis. Results show cellulose deterioration accounted 33.2% all faults, leading causes overload, aging, moisture content. Despite issues, arcing 26.2% trippings, short circuits, flashovers. The outcome work may help utility implement more advanced monitoring maintenance mechanisms enhance reliability reduce ESDN.

Multi-objective Based Optimization Using Tap Setting Transformer, DG and Capacitor Placement in Distribution Networks

In this article, a multi-objective function for placement of Distributed Generation (DG) and capacitors with thetap setting of Under Load Tap Changer (ULTC) Transformer is introduced. Most of the recent articles have paidless attention to DG, capacitor placement and ULTC effects in the distribution network simultaneously. Insimulations, a comparison between different modes was carried out with,...

Power Transformer Incipient Faults Monitoring

Power transformers are important and expensive components in the electric power system. The knowledge of the actual status of the transformer insulation behavior, load tap changer performance, temperature, and load condition is necessary in order to evaluate the service performance concerning reliability, availability and safety. Systems abnormalities, loading, switching and ambient condition n...

Detection of high impedance faults in distribution networks using Discrete Fourier Transform

In this paper, a new method for extracting dynamic properties for High Impedance Fault (HIF) detection using discrete Fourier transform (DFT) is proposed. Unlike conventional methods that use features extracted from data windows after fault to detect high impedance fault, in the proposed method, using the disturbance detection algorithm in the network, the normalized changes of the selected fea...
